We celebrated Hayden's birthday on Sunday (a day early) and just like every year he was glad when it finally arrived. He had been asking every day since the beginning of March when it would be his birthday. --And any one who knows Hayden very well knows he has NO PATIENCE!! --Anyway, we had everyone over for his party after church on Sunday. He had seen this cake:
in a magazine that I was looking at one day, and he said that it was the cake he wanted for his party.
Well, our cake didn't turn out quite like the magazine:
Thanks for all your help Jacki- even if it did fall apart on Sunday morning... (The things we do for our kids!!)
Hayden was a little sad, but I think I was more sad than he was!! So, I ended up making a new cake before church on Sunday and he seemed happy with it.
Hayden wanted a pinata again this year, but we couldn't find a motorcycle one, so we ended up with "Uncle Sam's hat". (Don't you just love Hayden's outfit - shorts and snow boots?)
He really liked all of his presents that he got - like the Hot Wheels Motorcycle (and Lego's from Hailee and Lexie)
and the Toy Story Lego's (from Paige, Gavin, and Ethan)
(Plus, he got a shirt and money from his Grandma and Grandpa, money from the Snuffy's, and money from Papa Mike and Nana)
Hayden loves to collect things - he has a bottle cap collection that he has been working on for about 2 years, and then this past summer- he started collecting rocks. This kid comes home with rocks falling out of his pockets, and he collects any kind of rocks, small ones, big ones. He even came home one day from school one day - and excitedly wanted to show me a rock that he had found. When I "checked" out his "cool" rock - it was an old piece of gum!! Gross, huh? --Anyway, a few months ago he told his dad he wanted to look at rock tumblers on the Internet, and so he has been checking them out ever since. Not sure where or why he came up with the idea to want one. But he had his heart set on one, and on Sunday morning when he noticed his wrapped presents he told his dad "Cool! It better be a rock tumbler!!" So, guess what he got from us:
Now he just has to wait for the process of polishing the rocks to finish, which is a total of almost 3 weeks!! Maybe this will help him with learning to be more patient. We can always hope, right?
