Hayden kept Waylen busy making "swimming pools" for him. They made at least 5!!
Hayden is playing T-Ball this year. I put him in it mostly for a little "social activity" for the summer, and he was excited to find out that a couple of his friends from his preschool class are on his team. He has really enjoyed going to T-Ball practice, and I think he is learning a lot. He has learned to run to first base after hitting the ball instead of chasing after the ball. But he still doesn't get in a hurry about running. He had his first game on Saturday, and did pretty good for not really having a clue about what was going on. He actually did pretty good at hitting the ball, but then he didn't try very hard to get to first base.
During the game, I told him, after you hit the ball you have to run to 1st base, and he tells me, "I just want to walk." He was in la-la land for most of the time, and he was ready to go after the first inning. Waylen was the ump for 3rd base, and he said several of the kids asked him several times if the game was over yet. Their game lasted an hour, which was about 30 minutes too long.
Hayden's team has about 5 four year olds (going into PreK) on it, and the others are 5 or 6, with some having never played before either. And the team they played, all the players were 6 and in the 1st grade. I'm not sure what the actual score was, but I'm sure they had at least 3 times as many runs as Hayden's team did. Anyways, Hayden said he had fun, but then yesterday he was telling me that all his games are over, and that he just wants to go to T-Ball practice. I think his favorite thing about playing is getting a snack after practice and the games. He hadn't hurried too hard during his game, but once it was over, he went just a running to get his snack. --He has another game this evening, so it will be interesting to see how that game goes.
We went on another camping trip while my family was here visiting. We left after church on Sunday and headed up to the mountains. Later that afternoon, Waylen's parents, grandparents, and sisters' families came up for dinner and to visit for awhile. Everyone had fun visiting, playing horseshoes or frisbee, and of course, we enjoyed eating all the desserts, including smores. It was a lot of fun, and thankfully it was a really nice afternoon and evening, without too much wind.
picture. We finally decided to leave when we had a hard time keeping Kayla from trying to get into the water. By then, it was almost time for the train to come by, so we walked back up to the train station and waited for it to come. My niece, Nico
lette, and my nephew, Porter, decided they wanted to climb up the side of the mountain. After a few tries, Waylen finally helped them to the top. Then Hayden and my youngest nephew, Corbin, wanted to go up, so Bradley helped them up to the t
op. Not long after their "climbing expedition", the train came in. It stopped for a little less than 5 minutes, while it topped off it's water supply. (Note for those who may not know: The train I keep referring to, and that was mentioned in our first camping post, is an old steam engine, and it carries passengers on a scenic tour through the mountains, it is know as the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad
. It's starting point is less than 10 miles from where we live.) Bradley's kids really enjoyed seeing it, and while we were waiting, Corbin kept asking if we were going to get on it. Whereas, Hayden was worried that we might have to ride it. As you can tell from the picture, Kayla was more interested in watching them fill up the train than having her picture taken. --After the train left, we hiked on back to camp, and then had lunch and just relaxed for the afternoon. Later in the
afternoon, the guys started "entertaining" themselves by pushing down a bunch of old dead trees. So, then the kids joined in and helped push them down and
then they would put them between two branches on another tree to break the limb into small pieces to burn on the fire. They had a lot of fun doing this, and it was our entertainment for at least an hour. We went on another little hike, had dinner, and then had some more smores, of course!! We spent the evening just enjoying each other's company and watching the kids play, including Kayla pulling her chair all over the place. It was yellow when we got there, but it was almost black by the time we left. --We went to bed around 9:30 or so, and it seemed like the kids were all asleep the minute their heads hit their pillows. We got up the next morning, and packed up to come home. We had a lot of fun on our little camping trip, and enjoyed the time we got to spend together with my family.
they were here. My brother (jokingly?) said he was going to hike all the way to the top of the Sand Dunes. So, Bradley, my dad, and the kids started on their little hike up the Dunes. Not long after they began, her
e came my niece, Nicolette, carrying Hayden back. He had had enough and didn't like getting all the sand in his shoes. He had "unpreparedly" worn his beloved Cars shoes instead of tennis shoes. So, Nicolette and him ended up playing in the water, but we told them not to get too wet since we "unpreparedly" didn't have towels. They still had fun
standing in the water and digging their feet into the sand. Kayla on the other hand, wasn't as good at not getting too wet. She ended up getting soaked from head to toe, but had a lot of f
un doing it. --The weather was actually pretty nice that day, and luckily the wind wasn't blowing too bad. It was a nice little trip to the Sand Dunes, and the kids had a lot of fun. But maybe next time we decide to go to the Sand Dunes, we'll be a little more prepared.
