1st Camping Trip of the Summer

We were able to go on our first camping trip of the summer during the Memorial Day weekend. We weren't sure how the weather was going to be, but we tried it anyway. And overall, the weather wasn't too bad. **Note: This may be boring to some, but I am going to write some of what we did just for journaling purposes**--We (plus - my dad and brother had made a surprise visit on their way back from moving a friend to Vegas, so they were able to go camping one night with us) left on Friday evening after Waylen got home from work. It was almost 7 by the time we got up there, so we had dinner then roasted some marshmallows, then went to bed around 9 or so. On Saturday, after breakfast, we went on a hike (that Hayden had been dying to take since we got there) down to the train station and to the stream where Hayden got to try out his fishing pole that he got for his birthday. Sometime around noon, it started to drizzle rain, but it only lasted for a few minutes, then the sun would come back out for awhile. It did this all afternoon, but luckily it never did more than just sprinkle. --We were able to sit around the campfire for sometime, then we would move under the awning when it started to sprinkle. But then around 5, it stopped and didn't rain again on us the rest of the weekend. My dad and brother left around 4:30 and came back to our house to clean up, go eat a good dinner, and get a good night's rest before leaving on Sunday morning for their 29 hour drive back home!! --It was good to be able to spend some time with them, even if it was for only a day. But we can't wait until Papa Mike, Nana, one of my dad's sisters, and Hayden's cousins Porter and Corbin come out in July for a visit!! --Anyway, after they left we decided to go on another little hike before dinner. After dinner, the kids were both starting to get pretty tired, especially Kayla, she hadn't had a nap all day, and her little legs had hiked up some pretty steep hills (will wearing cowboy boots!!) So it was nice when the kids were both asleep by 8 that night, so then Waylen and I were able to sit around the fire and enjoy some peace and quiet. On Sunday morning, we got up around 7:30, and headed back home to get ready for church. Then after church, we went over to Waylen's parents and had lunch, then we went back up to the mountains. Waylen's parents, his brother Ben and his wife Kaley, and some of our nieces and nephews went up to visit for awhile that evening. We weren't sure what the weather was going to be like because it was a little cloudy and windy when we first got back up there. But it turned out to be a really nice evening, and everyone had fun visiting, playing horseshoes and frisbee, and roasting hot dogs and making s'mores. Hayden was excited that his cousins, Ethan and Hailee, got to stay and camp with us that night. They were all asleep within just minutes, but Kayla had us all up bright and early the next morning. Later Monday morning, we took the kids on a hike down to the stream and around the train station. The train was suppose to arrive and stop there in Sublette sometime between 11 and 11:15, but we waited around until 11:30 and then decided to just go back and get things ready to go home. We didn't leave the mountains until sometime around 12:30, and there had still been no train, so who knows why it was late. Maybe we'll get a chance to go back up camping there again sometime this summer because Hayden and Kayla both love to see the train. --We had a great weekend and Hayden had lots of fun and was not ready to come home, he probably would have camped for at least another day or two. Kayla also had fun "tamping" and was a little worried when we came home on Sunday and didn't bring her "tamper". She didn't stop for a minute the whole time and definitely didn't mind getting dirty one bit. We kept finding her walking around without her boots on, I think we went through three pairs of socks in one day!! --I guess it's time to start planning our next camping trip for the summer, which may be to the Sand Dunes in a few weeks.
