Christmas: A time for traditions

I think everyone would agree that Christmas is a time for traditions. Even though they may be small and simple ones, our traditions are something that makes Christmas so fun.  It's a family traditon to put up our tree the day after Thanksgiving, so that is what we did!! While Hayden enjoyed putting all the ornaments on the tree......

Kayla enjoyed checking out all of the other Christmas decorations that we have and loved trying on the reindeer antlers and.....

the stockings too!!!!

It is tradition to try to get a picture of the kids in their Christmas best.  And this year wasn't much different from any other (well, except for the fact of having three kids in the picture now)!!
 Take one:
(As you can tell they weren't quite ready for the picture taking!!)

Take two:
(I love Kayla's smile in this one, she was so excited to hold Katie for the picture. But not sure what Hayden was looking at.)

Take three:
(I think this would have been the cutest one, since Hayden & Kayla both were actually smiling, but Katie's hand was covering Kayla's face.)

Take four:
(Thought a new pose might turn out better and this was the by far the best one!!)

Take five:
(And I love Hayden's smile in this one, but Kayla was done by then, and Katie had had enough too!!)

I did get a few cute ones of Katie by herself after we got home from church that day. Isn't she a cutie?

No pictures for this next tradition but we always have a Family Home Evening lesson the first week of the month on the first Christmas. Last year after Christmas, I bought a Nativity set for the kids that they can play with and so what I did for this year's lesson was I hid all the pieces except for the stable and then after the kids found all the pieces we talked about the story of Jesus' birth.  They both loved it, and even took turns hiding all of the pieces again. Hayden hid them all so good, that it took me, him, and Kayla about 10 minutes or longer to find Joseph!!  Then, on Thursday night of that week, we went down to the church in Sanford where they were acting out the first Christmas. It was a great experience, but it was pretty cold that night!!  Hayden commented on the way home that it was neat, but he didn't want to go back again next year because it was too cold. We (me and the kids) had went last year too with Waylen's mom and sister, and it was really cold then too, and I'm sure every year will be pretty cold. We do live in Colorado!! But I think it is something that I would like to do every year because it is a good way to teach your kids and remind them and yourselves the true meaning of CHRISTmas.

And those are just a couple of the traditions that we have in our family. More to come in the weeks to follow!!
